Dialogues and Conversations is a large scale exhibition of nearly 100 paintings, drawings, prints and poems by U.K. artist Geoffrey Morten.  The majority of the works have never been shown publicly in the U.S.

We invite the public to enjoy viewing two related shows at the bank's Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley offices.

It is the very nature of this exhibition venue with its distinctive public and private spaces, which has allowed me the opportunity to assemble a large body of work to be shown in such a way that it closely reflects the thematic concerns of my own dialogues and conversations which continually take place as the informing centre of my working practice.

The dialogues… project has always been present, quietly growing and evolving concurrently with the exhibitions being prepared for England, Europe and the USA – with the intention of, one day, finding a way of bringing together all these elements as a free standing show.

More recently, with the move to California, the project has gathered a new momentum and become the pre-occupying focus for interpreting what it feels like to be me in a particular time and place – living in and through the paintings.

‘Dialogues and Conversations’ is primarily based on the daily activity of making drawings (A visual diary, perhaps even confessional) in the simplest possible terms, with the minimum of equipment. The drawings, and latterly poems, make no pretensions; there are no answers, only questions.  They are about anxiety, risk and daring to make the next move, subsequently reappearing in a new form through the larger paintings and prints.

There is also another side to this project – where the viewer comes to the work, carrying with them experiences and baggage which conditions their response and engagement with the work, to hopefully trigger their own private dialogues and conversations.
